If you use the Outlook on Mac application regularly, you know how hard it can be to read mail without having access to something that can display it in plain text. The following article looks at how to change your Outlook on Mac message’s status to show in plain text so that you can get a better idea of what’s in your messages without opening them all.
Outlook on Mac displays messages
In the default message on Outlook, you can see information about your messages in the status bar if you click on the timeline of the mail. That information includes the sender’s name, the date that the message was sent or received, and other information. You can also see that you’re about to open the message by looking at the triangular graphic beside the message.
To see message information in plain text, you can choose to enable the Apple menu, which displays the options from the File menu, and then choose “Show > Text Only”. That will show you all the information that’s in the message box, including the sender’s name, the date of the email, and the attachments.
You can also do this in a different way. In the main window of the mail client, go to the View menu and select “Message”. The next time you open the message, all of the information will be displayed in plain text.
Once you’ve disabled the status bar, you don’t need to see the information on the timeline because there is nothing there.
Convert messages to plain text
Once the message in your inbox is displayed in plain text, you can convert it to a file format so that you can save the information that you want to keep. In the File menu, choose “Export Message As” and choose a file format from the drop-down menu.
