It takes your avatar on a ride down the jet stream through rings of volcanic stone, through the clouds and past a prehistoric, active volcano. Collect rings to collect rockets and boost your score. ReviewsOffworld can be a frustratingly difficult game. It’s hard to pinpoint why, but the fact that you’re wearing the Oculus Rift might be a contributing factor. Every time you see a distant planet, you’ll notice the dark and light spots it’s composed of, causing you to halt your forward momentum and change your position just to make sure you see the surface correctly. The sense of scale is not handled well, and the game regularly switches it up during boss battles and difficult sections. But I still thoroughly enjoyed my time with it.
– This is a solo game, although you can have up to 4 players online in an asynchronous mode.
– Online multiplayer allows players to take control of the boss and hunt you down in a multiplayer map (although this is not possible in offline mode.)
– Multiplayer mode has a fully voiced-over story that adds further difficulty and can be opened after the main story is completed.
– Offline mode has its own separate story.
– In offline mode, you have access to all the weapons and abilities you’ve earned so far.
– Characters in this mode of the game are controlled by an AI and the story is no longer told in the third-person.
– In offline mode, you do not have to upgrade your Mark-IV Astro Smasher vehicle.
