In 3D InterOp STEP Export, the objects are only registered once. The file header information is written to the file in the form of a registration unit, in addition to the objects. The registration unit contains information about the position and orientation of the objects, as well as the number of objects. In STEP file format, the orientation of a single object file is defined by the orientation of the line from the location of the object to the location of the last object (the line is labelled “Registered Object”). This information is present in the object header of the STEP file.
The spatial reference system, used for defining the position of the objects, is specified by the position of the file header. The location of the header is at the beginning of the file. The spatial reference system is defined in terms of a set of three points that define three planes. Two of these planes are parallel to the axes of the system (X, Y and Z).
