The Story of AutoCAD
The story of AutoCAD begins with the story of Frank Block. In the early 1960’s Frank began to feel that the way that he was drawing and designing was inefficient and time-consuming. He asked himself, “What would happen if there were a way to draw a line from one spot to another automatically with a click of a mouse?” Frank had worked with the IBM 1401 system to automate the manufacture of military ballistic missiles and felt that this new technology might also make it possible to automate the process of drawing and designing.
He contacted a fellow engineer at IBM named Rod Brown and together they created the first version of the program “AUTO CADDY” which stood for “Automatic CAD System for Design and Drafting”. In 1965, working at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Rod Brown and Frank began to build a prototype of the system that they called CADRY. CADRY was not the first CAD system but was the first CAD system that used a computer to generate lines of the drawings. A number of problems had to be addressed to make CADRY work, including how the mouse would interact with the screen and whether the program would be used by a single user. A few key features of CADRY were the ability to adjust the size of drawings based on a number of rules, and the use of a drawing area called a body to display the design. CADRY began as a proof-of-concept that could create a visual representation of the design process.

After several years of research, Rod Brown and Frank Block began to sell CADRY to various defense agencies. In the 1970s the US Air Force and NASA wanted a system to design things like airplane wings, power plants, and space shuttles. Along with a team of engineers from the MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Rod Brown and Frank began to build a system for the US Air Force called ARACOS (Automatic Random Access COmmuting System) which would have been the first CAD system for manufacturing. How to rename a Git branch from a forked repository?
I have two repositories on BitBucket. Both are forked from an original repository. One of them is the official repository and the other is my own version of the program.
When I created the my own repository, the original repository’s branch name was “master” and my branch name is “git” (the branch name has no “master” in it). Now I don’t want my own version of the program to have a name that sounds too similar to the official version’s branch name “master” (I want to avoid any confusing with the original repository’s branch name “master”).
