MySQL vs MongoDB vs SQLite
I have a question that I haven’t been able to find a satisfying answer to so far. My clients need to store a (potentially large) amount of data, which needs to be accessible quickly and updated regularly. Some of the data will be shared with multiple users at once. For example, a “view” of the data that would include some columns from each person’s part of the data.
In SQL Server, I’ve used SQLite as my storage backend, storing the data in a file. For speed, I stored only the data and the ids (along with the users’ data for each id), and did some cursors to get the data for a particular user. Although this did work fine, it’s less than ideal for several reasons, the most notable one being that the data is stored on a different machine than the web server.
Are there any other options for something like this?

SQLite (ok, maybe) is good for the first test, but don’t forget, you can install easily another DBMS on a Windows Server
SQL Server is only one good solution, but with a lot of features (important is the product lifetime and the versioning)
You can also use an relational DBMS like Postgresql (and others) with a good community
But it depends on what you want… if you want share the data with multiple user at the same time, you will need to synchronize that and maybe use a special solution (see Splina or MongoDB).
Maybe a different problem is to develop the web server, maybe you need a fast solution for the writing of your data, or…
