The first and second generation AutoCAD models did not allow users to draw closed (i.e., defined by only a single face) entities (i.e., components, systems, or assemblies of some kind). This enables a network-based rendering and printing server to decide whether to render or print an object based on the identity of the individual user. The certification process requires registration on Autodesk’s website and uses certificates for personal authentication.
The unique feature of AutoCAD is that it was designed specifically for drafting and design applications. It was not designed for office work and does not have features for such work.
AutoCAD is not generally regarded as a low-cost software option, but has a very low entry barrier to CAD programs. It is the most popular and widely used commercial CAD program available and is found in over 150 countries.
