This is a Powershell wrapper for the nmap.org DNS/Bind response time statistics.
nmap.org is a free and open network mapping utility. In addition to providing a scan engine, it’s a very capable packet sniffer, too. It uses all of this power for its very own very useful daily and weekly network scans.
With the DNS Response Time Monitor (or DNS RTM) application, nmap.org’s RTM statistics are stored in a centralized.csv file. Then, the DNS RTM will periodically run on a computer to fetch the latest statistics.

It will display the most recently collected RTM data whenever it’s run.

This is really one of the most useful applications I’ve seen in a while, not only because it’s free, but also because it collects a huge amount of information that’s being sent into the air whenever someone visits nmap.org.

DNS Response Time Monitor is a command-line tool to periodically poll and report the average and maximum DNS/Bind response time for a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of interest.
DNS Response Time Monitor Report:
The report outputs the following information :
• The Domain Name of the target FQDN
• The (average and maximum) DNS/Bind response time for the target FQDN
• An optional description of the target FQDN
• The user name (username) used to perform the command
• The time of the last target DNS/Bind request for the target FQDN.
• The user of the computer executing the command. This can be useful to determine the DNS latency of the users of the local network.
• The hour of the last DNS/Bind request for the target FQDN.
Note: It is possible that multiple DNS/Bind requests are resolved in parallel to your primary DNS server. In that case you have only one average response time.

DNS Response Time Monitor can be configured to run on Windows machines and Mac OS X machines.
It can be used either to validate a Windows-based server or to measure the DNS Response Time (latency) between two computers in your network.

DNS Response Time Monitor is an application for Windows Server Operating System that periodically polls a specific DNS server for a FQDN response. The DNS Response Time Monitor Application periodically polls the specified DNS server using the specified type of DNS request (A, PTR, SRV, AAAA, CNAME, or TXT) to determine the DNS server response time to that DNS request, and then reports the average and maximum DNS server response time.
This application supports standard DNS query types as defined by IETF RFC 1035 and others. Query types include A, PTR, SRV, AAAA, CNAME, and TXT. All query types except SRV and TXT are supported by default. To support the additional types of queries, the user can select the additional types of queries by adding the appropriate registry keys to the application’s Registry keys. These additional queries types include SRV and TXT.
Registered access to the response time of DNS servers are all obtained by subdividing each DNS request into at least two pieces. One piece is a unique DNS query, and the other piece is a name fragment. The length of the name fragment should be shorter than the maximum DNS server record size. This allows the DNS server to return both the response time for the name fragment, plus any additional information, such as the IP address for the name fragment. For example, if the DNS server has a maximum response time of five seconds, the maximum DNS response time would be an average of (5/2) * 2 milliseconds, or 10 milliseconds.
The DNS Response Time Monitor application can report the average and maximum DNS response time, as well as the count of DNS server response times for each name fragment. The application also reports the DNS request and response time counts for all the name fragments. For each request type, the DNS Response Time Monitor Application reports the maximum DNS server response time encountered.
Note:
The application is designed to help the user to evaluate how the DNS server response time is affected by the number of DNS servers used in the DNS environment. The DNS Response Time Monitor application does not provide any DNS server quality assurance. The user must perform this function using other means, e.g. ping.

DNS Response Time Monitor monitors the following DNS/Bind network configuration properties to gather data on DNS and Bind response times from the machine where this application is installed.
The DNS/Bind response time reported by this application is only for the FQDN(s) of interest,
this includes the use of multicast DNS (mDNS) or other DNS resolvers
This application was originally designed to monitor DNS response times for a single DNS/Bind resolver (e.g. libcares)
The application is now designed to monitor DNS response times for a single DNS/Bind resolver (e.g. libcares) or multiple DNS/Bind resolvers at once (e.g. dnsmasq).
The monitoring data is presented in graph format, and the summary information and log output is available for examination and debugging as well.
The program can be run unattended as a daemon which will poll the DNS/Bind network configuration properties using the builtin APIs of the OS.
The recorded data is logged to the file dns_response_time_monitor.log. If the application is run in a non-daemon mode, the collected data is presented in the form of text.
The reported DNS/Bind network configuration properties are “bind_address”, “dns_domain_search”, “dns_domain_search_time”, “domain_search_interval”, “max_dnsserver_delay” and “min_dnsserver_delay”.

absolute network configuration properties. Instead these are relative to the machine’s network configuration.
