In Spring Framework and Hibernate there is the practice of telling the framework at deployment time to instantiate any necessary DAO beans. If I have a web application running in Glassfish 4.1 using Maven, when should I add beans to the context via to avoid having them instantiated during the first request and being out of scope when the application starts?
A:
Adding the beans to a JNDI lookup (something like InitialContext.lookup) would only be necessary if the webapp were redeploying and restarting, which doesn’t seem to be the case. You’d normally just place the beans in the app’s initialization sequence, and they’ll be available as soon as the webapp is started.

SP2010 Workflows – How to prevent two independent instances of a workflow to start at the same time
Background
As a proof of concept, we are using SharePoint Designer 2010 to create multiple workflows. We want to produce multiple result files, with each file linked to the last workflow that was run.
For that, the workflows should be independent processes.
So, the problem is, I’ve found two workarounds for it:
Programmatically keep the list object busy by using a timerjob,
programmatically keep a concurrency token on the list item and check
if the token matches and if so, continue, else abort the workflow
Issue with Workaround (1)
Timerjob aren’t allowed in SPD workflow. So, I looked for alternative to that (Item level batch)
Managed code shouldn’t be used. Therefore, I can’t use BatchAPI.
Workaround (2)
I found another workaround, which looks like this:
When I start a workflow, it stores the ID of the item in a list column (Yes, it would be good if I could somehow programmatically set the column type but I’m not in a position to do that).
On the next step, the workflow accesses the list item to see, whether it’s running on its own item.
If so, it should abort the workflow.
