1. Technical Field
The present invention relates to a toner, a developer for electrophotography, an image forming method, an image forming apparatus, and a process cartridge.
2. Related Art
In image forming apparatuses such as copying machines, printers, facsimile machines, and multifunctional devices that combine and perform functions of these apparatuses, an image forming method is used that includes charging, developing, and transferring. The charging step includes a corona charging process in which a charging roller is applied with a voltage to charge the surface of an image bearing member such as a photosensitive member, a direct charging process in which the image bearing member is directly applied with a voltage to charge the surface of the image bearing member, and the like.
However, the corona charging process by which ozone is generated as by-product requires a substantial amount of time to charge the photosensitive member, and moreover it is likely to generate an electrically unbalanced state due to inhomogeneity of the voltage applied to the charging roller, so the toner produced by the production apparatus of the image bearing member becomes so-called “fogged”. Furthermore, the direct charging process by which the surface of the photosensitive member is charged by utilizing electron tunneling also causes an electrically unbalanced state in the toner, and therefore the adhesion between the toner and the image bearing member (photosensitive member) is reduced and the material of the toner is subjected to mechanical abrasion, so the toner particles are unevenly charged, and the charging efficiency is decreased, or toner particles are scattered as paper powder.
Furthermore, when the image bearing member is a member such as an organic photosensitive member that inherently contains a conductive material such as a metal, the image bearing member is charged at a higher electric potential in the direct charging process, and therefore the potential of the image bearing member becomes a potential greater than the level of the power supply voltage supplied to the image forming apparatus, and the toner can not be sufficiently charged in the charging step.
It is known that, in the case of direct charging, the discharging of the image bearing member is initiated by discharge from the charging member in the direct charging process, and the developing ability of the toner is improved by the discharge
