I’m a bit late, but MIDI Patch Bay certainly is a useful plugin.
I had to install it on Windows XP Pro because the latest release (still available) doesn’t work on it.

It’s what I used back in the day for zend studio, totally useful in re-routing midi messages or filters.
Edited: They way they’re set up for windows XP users, they’re actually more confusing than their original use. It’s not as simple as first thought. They should probably repopulate as ‘Windows 7’ and ‘Windows Vista’ but there’s no way to do that. So much for laptop’s with 100+ windows installed.

I made this patchbay plugin for Midi rewrite. It’s actually a quite simple tool.
Basically, it allows you to redirect the inputs and outputs of a midi channel to different channels, its fully controllable and you can even merge the channels you need.
The plugin works like this:
-You can merge the channels using the “Merge Channels” button
-You can link the channels by holding the mouse over the connector, you will see a little
MIDI Patch Bay
Allows you to quickly change the channel a MIDI is sent to.
This may be used to change a MIDI send from channel 1 to channel 5, for example.
What you need to know
1. Right click to switch connections.
2. Top connectors are all the connections from left to right.
3. Lower connectors are all the connections from top to bottom.
4. Remove a connector and your changing connection is broken.

The MIDI patch bay allows you to reroute your MIDI channels.
The patch bay uses MIDI messages to determine which channels are linked together. When you set your MIDI channels and select a patch bay, the patch bay will then take the MIDI messages from all the channels, put them together in a single message and send them to your chosen output (e.g. channel 3).
When you click “break” on a patch bay, it sends all the data to the previous MIDI channel.
Additionally, each MIDI channel can be filtered out with “Invert” and “Filter” options, or “Channels 1..9” will only send data from the first nine MIDI channels.

proximity How close the channels must be to each other to “merge”.
loop Loop send a channel after all the others, if set.

Input 1 Description:
(Selects the input channel to create the patch bay from. If you are midiing a synthesizer or drum machine with a channel activated, this is where the MIDI output comes from.)

You can also loop your master output if you have a surround processor connected to your master.
Here are some commands:
channels sets the number of channels to make into one
proximity sets how close the channels must be to be merged
loop sets the channel to loop on.
a lot sets how long the channels stay on.
Input 2 Description:
(When set, this will create a patch bay from the second MIDI channel you select.)
Output 2 Description:
(When set, this will create a patch bay from the second channel you select.)

(Briefly delays the channel being repeated)
Feedback
(If you don’t want to get data back from your plugin until it’s ready. If feedback is disabled, your plugin will send messages back to it’s output, which should be set to a MIDI channel. Data feedback requires your plugin to be running as a master.)

MIDI Patchbay is one of the best free plugins for the program i use on a daily basis, Ableton Live. It’s a perfect replacement for Ableton’s add on Soundforge.
