History of AutoCAD
The original AutoCAD code began as a general purpose drafting program called DraftCalc. The DraftCalc version 1.0 release (1983) was renamed AutoCAD. Version 1.0 was offered as a stand-alone program (on tape) or as part of the $12,000 LaserMate I computer system from the now-defunct LaserMate company. LaserMate I was targeted at architectural drafting. It was also the first commercially available laser printer to offer the capability of raster graphics printing. The LaserMate I did not have the capability to produce a DXF file.

The VisualLisp programming language was developed for AutoCAD by Art Technology Group. This language is used to automate processes in AutoCAD and other products. VisualLisp applications are typically designed in VCL. VisualLisp and VCL support Automation Server. VisualLisp applications can be compiled as part of an AutoCAD project, but VisualLisp cannot be used as a stand-alone product.
VBA was developed for Microsoft Office with AutoCAD as the primary target. Originally introduced with AutoCAD 1998, VBA can be used with other Microsoft Office products. VBA cannot be used with AutoCAD as a standalone product. VBA has supported AutoCAD since the Autodesk DWG release of version 13.

The development and validation of a logistic regression model to predict the presence of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli serotype O157 in samples from cattle at slaughter.
Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli serotype O157 (EHEC O157) is a foodborne pathogen of increasing importance. A validated statistical model would facilitate research and control in this area. To this end a logistic regression model was developed using 100 or more randomly selected EHEC O157 isolates and data on putative risk factors from a survey of farmers and abattoir workers. Data on 8 putative risk factors were gathered from 3 questionnaires (n = 756). Samples were gathered from cattle on 6 abattoirs in the Province of Canterbury in New Zealand from 2005 to 2007. Twelve independent variables were then selected for a model using a binary logistic regression. The resulting model was validated in a prospective study. A total of 130 EHEC O157 isolates were collected from cattle at slaughter during 2005-2007. When samples were compared with data collected at abattoirs, variables associated with the likelihood of contamination were: prior-sample-type, ‘on-farm’ but not ‘in-slaughterhouse’, holding more than one calf, the number of animals slaughtered, a greater number of hand contacts and increased contact with dirt. These findings suggest that intervention programmes need to be aware that the number of calves and their prior sample type are important risk factors for contamination.
