Former president Barack Obama will make his first presidential campaign stop on the campaign trail in the battleground state of Ohio on June 3, six days before the Republican convention.
On Wednesday, the Obama campaign released its latest ad, showing the president in Ohio, where he is making his fifth campaign stop in the past two weeks. The campaign began airing the ad in Juneau, Alaska, and last week unveiled a version of the ad in San Diego.
And on Tuesday, the Obama campaign announced the president will visit Washington on June 9 to accept his party’s nomination for re-election.
For now, a new Suffolk University/7News poll shows Obama leading Mitt Romney 50 percent to 40 percent in Ohio.
And in a new NBC/WSJ/Marist poll, Obama is also leading Romney in four battleground states: Virginia, Wisconsin, Colorado and Florida.
In both states, Obama is getting support from women voters.
“There’s a lot of factors at work here,” said Suffolk University Polling Director Lee Miringoff. “Women are not as confident in Mitt Romney’s ability to handle an economic crisis as they were four years ago. Women tend to vote for a president they believe in. They view Obama as a president that they think will protect them and their children.”
Romney campaign spokesman Ryan Williams says, “With fewer than three weeks to go before the election, President Obama is out of touch with the people and running away from the principles that got him elected four years ago. Americans are seeing who Mitt Romney will be on the issues that matter to them in their daily lives, and they are clear that Barack Obama is a one-term president.”
Obama will stop in Cleveland on Friday and in Youngstown on Sunday.
He is also expected to make campaign stops this week in Denver, and in Wisconsin and Nevada.
