If casual sex is at the top of your “things I want to try” list, here’s how to have it safely1) Never feel bad about wanting to have casual sex — and enjoy it.
Why should sex be complicated? If you have casual sex with a trusted partner and you’re both okay with what’s going on, no one should judge you for having sex on that night. If something that feels great is on the table, why not take it? So while you may be curious about how to have casual sex without casual sex killing you, don’t worry too much.
2) Know your body.
Having casual sex doesn’t necessarily require that you hook up with strangers, but that you are just as willing to take things into your own hands with any given person. But, in the words of Fat Amy, “If you can’t recognize a bad situation when it’s happening, then you really shouldn’t be having sex.” So if you want to have casual sex without casual sex killing you, it is important to know what you’re getting into when you have casual sex.
Wanting to have casual sex and having casual sex are two different things. If you’re feeling pressured into having casual sex before you know all the necessary info on what you’re doing, that’s not casual sex. Sure, there’s pressure to do the “right thing” in casual sex, but there is also pressure not to do the “right thing.” It’s really complicated to have casual sex and be able to stay safe, but if you know your body well, you’ll be able to have casual sex without casual sex killing you.
3) Know who you’re sleeping with.
If you’re still doing it in high school, your success with casual sex has a lot to do with your partner — and the stakes aren’t as high with a person you sleep with once a week at a frat party. However, the good news is that meeting someone special on dating apps and apps like Tinder are more commonplace today than they were a decade ago. Not only will it help you have casual sex without casual sex killing you, but it will also help you meet someone who knows their own body.
Just because casual sex has not only been legitimized in recent years, but veritably been made the social standard, doesn’t mean

This is especially true with people who are already struggling with anxiety — putting new people in a vulnerable position by having sex with them. But the casual sex environment is also pretty sex-positive. So if you’re okay with exposing your sexuality a bit or you find it reassuring to share other people’s experiences with you, you shouldn’t have an issue with casual sex — or at least, you shouldn’t have one based on how it affects your health. Sure, there’s an increased chance of catching STDs, like herpes and HIV. But that’s the case with any kind of sex, especially if you’re sleeping around with people you don’t know. Meanwhile, if you’re being safe and using condoms during sex, the chances of catching a disease decrease dramatically. To eliminate that part of the danger, you could just be tested before having sex — and when that doesn’t work, you could take an HIV test after you’ve had sex, or a herpes test if you’re certain you won’t have those as well. You may find that this decreases the odds of getting an STD, but you’ll feel better knowing that your health will be protected and that you aren’t putting your health at risk in any way. However, if casual sex isn’t something you’re okay with having, then that is where you need to draw the line. Perhaps you’d prefer to go the more traditional route and have sex with people who you feel are sexually attractive, who are also capable of and interested in having sex with you. As you do a little research into those people, maybe, eventually, you find that you’d like to pursue a more committed relationship with one of them — or, just a one-night stand with someone who isn’t interested. In that case, casual sex is a good thing — just not one that you engage in. The Internet has made it nearly ridiculously simple to find like-minded people to hook up with — dating apps and websites make it easier than ever to find strangers to have a one-night stand. But the majority of people who use these sites and apps are doing so for the right reasons, and while it’s OK for them to have sex occasionally, they shouldn’t be involved in it as a way of life. If you’ve decided that casual sex isn’t a lifestyle choice that you’d like to engage in, then just make sure you’re well informed about your sexual health and what is and isn’t safe. For one thing, using protection is critically important, no matter
