AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT started development in 1993.
AutoCAD LT began as a stand-alone drawing program, which was later followed by the release of AutoCAD. AutoCAD LT was discontinued in 2016. In 2003, AutoCAD introduced the architecture of its drawing engine as C++ code and used the Autodesk.NET technology, based on the Windows.NET framework.
AutoCAD LT was developed on a separate code base from the main AutoCAD code base, and therefore had a different source base from the main AutoCAD code base.
