KZUN-FM (105.3 FM, “The Loon”) is a radio station broadcasting a country music format. Licensed to Shasta, California, United States, the station is currently owned by Douglas County Communications, Inc.
The station has a longtime relationship with local institution Shasta College. The college’s communications department produces, records, and handles promotion for the station. KZUN-FM provides the college’s public service messages, as well as emergency services and other non-commercial programming.
History
This station received its initial construction permit on December 8, 2006. The station changed callsigns from KYZO-FM to KSEY-FM on July 20, 2007. KSEY went silent on December 23, 2008 for an unknown reason.
The station received its license to cover on August 26, 2009, the day it began regular broadcasts. On November 3, 2009 the station changed its call sign back to KSEY-FM.
On May 12, 2010, Shasta County Superior Court Judge Anthony W. Pratt granted KSEY-FM’s application for a special temporary permit to move to 91.7 FM. The change would permit Shasta College to build a new radio station on that frequency. On May 31, 2010, KSEY-FM switched call signs to the current KZUN-FM.
