In this tutorial, I will show you how to start the drawing, what a drawing area is, and how to manage the drawing. You will learn how to add objects, edit objects, or select objects. You will also learn about line properties and text properties. Finally, you will learn how to add annotations to a drawing, how to insert images into your drawings, and how to insert drawings from other applications.
Start the Drawing
AutoCAD opens a user interface with a drawing area, called the main drawing window. The main drawing window is where you will create all your drawings, and it includes a title bar, a graphics window, and a menu bar.
In the following figure, you can see the main drawing window is created on a flat surface.
When AutoCAD opens the main drawing window, it creates a User Interface (UI) area, which is a rectangular area that is defined in the drawing area.
In the following figure, you can see the drawing area is in the center of the application.
To start drawing a new drawing, press the New Drawing button on the main drawing window or open the New Drawing dialog box.
The New Drawing dialog box is where you can add text, dimensions, graphics, layers, and drawings.
Add New Objects and Edit Objects
You can add or modify any object in the drawing area by selecting the object, drawing a rectangle around the object, and pressing Enter.
To select an object, click the object and drag the mouse to draw a rectangle around the object.

Once your drawing is ready, save it.
Before you close the drawing, you can convert the drawing into 2D.
To do that, select ‘Save As’ from the figure toolbar.
In the file name box, type a name for the file.
Then, press ‘Save’.
The new file will open in the drawing.
Note : If you have been using an earlier version of the software, you may not be able to open the file.
You can also ‘Save As’ from the main menu ‘File’ -> ‘Save’ -> ‘Save As’.
Now you will want to add some labels.
Select the figure on the drawing and use the toolbar for the labels.
