A quick description of AutoCAD and how it works

How to deal with volatile data which is updated in a thread

I’m working on an embedded system with a multi-threading architecture. Some data must be synchronized (for the example, a shared flag).
I was under the impression that, when calling a critical section, I could simply put a synchronizing volatile variable in the code and update it to the critical section.
When the code reaches the critical section, the thread will correctly read the last updated value of the variable.
However, as I’m not 100% sure that the thread is the only one to update that variable, I added a synchronized block (which I always include in the code) just before the critical section, so that other threads may or may not update that variable.
I tested my code on several platforms (ARM, x86,…) and always got the correct behavior: with my synchronized block, the only thread that is allowed to enter the critical section is the thread that updated the variable.
However, a few days ago, I added the same code to another platform (which also had a similar architecture). Suddenly, without any modification, the code is not behaving as I expected anymore.
To my mind, if I have a synchronized block, it is equivalent to always lock the variable, except in rare cases (when a thread is already inside the critical section and updates the variable). However, as this has always been working fine for many platforms, I cannot understand why it started to break.
So I’m wondering if I missed something, and if there is some specific behavior about volatile data that I don’t know.

Cora Berkley appeals her conviction for bail jumping, enhanced by a prior felony conviction. The trial court sentenced her to eighteen years’ confinement. In her sole point, appellant contends that the evidence is legally and factually insufficient to sustain her conviction because the evidence does not show that she intentionally fled from a police officer. We affirm.

On December 20, 1998, an Arlington police officer tried to stop appellant’s car because it was suspected of being stolen. Appellant fled from the officer, and when the officer caught her a few blocks away, appellant hit him with her car, causing him to lose a contact lens. At the time, appellant was on parole for her prior felony conviction for theft.

Appellant contends that the evidence is insufficient to show that she intentionally fled from the officer because she could have been fleeing for a legitimate reason. However, a person commits the offense of bail jumping if she “is placed in confinement or arrested for the offense of theft of property or an offense under Chapter 46C, Penal Code, and intentionally fails to appear in accordance with the terms of her release.”
