AutoCAD was first released as a desktop application running on microcomputers with internal graphics controllers. It was available for the Apple II, the IBM PC/XT, IBM PC/AT, and the IBM PC/AT clone the TRS-80 Model 100.[1] Prior to the introduction of AutoCAD, most commercial CAD programs ran on mainframe computers or minicomputers, with each CAD operator (user) working at a separate graphics terminal.[2] In September 1982, Autodesk introduced the first 32-bit version of AutoCAD for the Apple II with the application code named “SCRIPTER”.
